Where's Safety Team is a 501c3 nonprofit dedicated to promoting a safer environment within the Greater Coronado neighborhood in Phoenix Arizona. We believe the key to building a safe community lies within each and every one of our community members and our ability to connect through diversity while working toward a common goal. Increased community involvement encourages a safer atmosphere in that neighbors become more aware of what is and is not normal activity and can be more alert to potential crime or other threats to safety. WST volunteers work as ambassadors to build community relations between neighbors as well as to bring neighborhood businesses more inclusively into the Coronado "family."
Where's Safety Team was founded in August 2020 to consolidate, organize, and expand upon a variety of ideas and projects from countless Coronado residents over the previous 20+ years. No progress could be made without the innovative hard work and dedication of these neighbors both past and present. Each and every member of our Coronado family, whether resident, business owner, or seasonal traveler holds their own unique value that contributes to the overall character of our community, making our neighborhood one of the most coveted places to live in the state. It is our combined energy and willingness to engage which transforms Coronado from just an inner city neighborhood into an indescribable place where pure magic is made.
A clean neighborhood is a safe neighborhood. When left unattended, trash and clutter only promote further litter and illegal dumping. Overgrowth and dry foliage present fire hazards and low traffic visibility. Furthermore, a clean neighborhood plays an important part in crime reduction in that it shows our neighbors are present and attentive to activities and surroundings.
Safety Team volunteers meet up regularly to identify and tackle areas prone to blight and overgrowth as part of our ongoing efforts to bring safety to Coronado.
Coronado is a special neighborhood with a "family" feeling. Where's Safety Team wants to foster this relationship and implore all neighbors and neighborhood businesses to get involved. Knowing our neighbors is the number one key to providing a safe environment within the community. Where's Safety Team works to implement these connections through special events, networking, and community activities.
Where's Safety Team aims to be out and active in the neighborhood on a regular basis. The team may be found offering cold water and food to homeless/hungry in the area, helping elderly or disabled neighbors to clean up an unruly lawn or unsafe environment, keeping neighbors safe during neighborhood events, assisting in lost/found pet searches, cleaning up streets and alleys, keeping a visual presence in the area to deter crime, etc. The possibilities are endless.
Visibility is key to deterring crime. Safety Team volunteers employ principles from the Phoenix Neighborhood Patrol program while traveling about the neighborhood in our daily routines. or while out on dedicated volunteer patrols. We are trained in observation skills necessary to identify criminal behavior, fights, traffic problems, stolen vehicles, and missing persons and to respond to each of these situations through non- confrontational methods.
